About Us

The Orthopaedic Society Shillong (OSS) was established in early 2009, when the Orthopaedic Surgeons from Civil Hospital and NEIGRIHMS came together and recognised the need for a professional body that would allow them to meet, interact and grow collectively.

In January 2009, OSS was formally created and by March, the Society was registered. Soon after in April 2009, the President, Dr. Valencia Myrboh, received a call from Prof. Vrisha Madhuri inviting the Society to host the POSI POSNA Fracture Course, with less than two months to prepare. The Society accepted the challenge and despite having fewer than 10 members, they worked tirelessly to organise the workshop, where Prof. Kay Wilkins was the Chief Faculty of the course. The workshop was attended by POSICON members from across the country and proved to be a great success.

Later that same year, in September 2009, OSS organised a social service camp at Bhoirymbong, a village 35 km from Shillong. In collaboration with the DDRC Civil Hospital, a disability awareness programme was conducted for the community.

In March 2011, OSS, in partnership with NEIGRIHMS, hosted NEOSCON, during which the Social Orthopaedics Chapter of the IOA was launched by the dynamic Late Prof. H.K.T. Raza. Unfortunately, his untimely demise brought the progress of this promising chapter to a halt.

From its humble beginning with fewer than 10 members, OSS has now grown to a strength of 20 members. In the recent IOACON, the Society made a significant impact by successfully organising a Knee Arthroscopy Workshop, which saw the highest number of participants.
